DescAn intrauterine device (IUD) is a small device placed in the uterus to prevent pregnancy.

It works by preventing fertilization and, in some cases, altering the uterine environment. IUDs are a long-acting, reversible form of contraception commonly used across Canada.

There are two main types:

• Hormonal IUDs (e.g. Mirena, Kyleena)

Liquid nitrogen is commonly used to treat:

Plantar warts (on the feet)
Common warts
Genital warts
Actinic keratosis (precancerous skin lesions)

Your provider will assess whether your lesion is appropriate for treatment.

MSP coverage may apply for certain medically indicated treatments, including:

Plantar warts
Genital warts
Actinic keratosis (as assessed by a physician)

Cosmetic lesions are typically not covered. Our team can clarify coverage at your appointment.

This clinic is open to both existing and new patients.

During your appointment:

Your provider will assess the lesion
Liquid nitrogen is applied directly to the area
You may feel a cold or stinging sensation
The procedure typically takes only a few minutes

Most patients experience a brief stinging or burning sensation during treatment.
Discomfort is usually short-lived and resolves quickly after the procedure

After treatment:

The area may become red or blister
A scab may form as the skin heals
The lesion typically falls off over time

Healing time varies depending on the size and location of the lesion.

Some lesions require multiple treatments for full resolution.
