Physiatry, also called Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), is a medical specialty focused on restoring function and mobility without surgery.
A physiatrist is a medical doctor who diagnoses and treats conditions affecting the muscles, joints, spine, nerves and pelvis.
Our physiatrist sees adult patients at our Squamish clinic, with a focus on restoring function, improving mobility and improving quality of life.
-
Care is non-surgical and evidence-based, with a focus on subacute and chronic conditions: pain or limitations that have lasted weeks, months or longer.
The goal is to find the source of the problem, not just where it hurts, and help you get back to the activities that bring you health, purpose and joy.
-
You may benefit from seeing a physiatrist if you have:
Neck, mid back, low back, buttock or tailbone pain
Arm or leg pain, numbness, tingling, shooting pain or weakness
Shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle or foot pain, stiffness or catching
Tendon pain that is not settling, such as in the heel, knee, outer hip or elbow
Pelvic, groin, SI joint or pubic pain during pregnancy or after birth
Jaw (TMJ) pain
Burning pain, localized numbness or a possible trapped nerve in the arms or legs
Rib, chest wall or abdominal wall pain, or painful surgical scars
Pain or limitations that have stalled after surgery, trauma or a sports injury
