A Pap smear is a quick screening test that checks the cervix for abnormal cell changes and HPV that could, over time, lead to cervical cancer. It is a routine part of preventive health for people with a cervix.

In BC, cervical screening is recommended for people with a cervix aged 25 to 69. You can have HPV screening every five years or a Pap test every three years, both of which are considered equally effective.

Yes. BC now offers self-screening (self-collection) kits. Book an appointment with your GP to see if the HPV self-swab is the right option for you. If it is, you can do the self-swab here in the clinic, and we'll send it off for you. If you'd prefer a traditional Pap, book with your GP to discuss and we'll arrange it if needed.

Your physician gently uses a speculum to view the cervix and collects a small sample of cells. The test takes only a few minutes and most people feel only brief pressure or mild discomfort.

Usually within 1–2 weeks. If your results are normal, we won't contact you. If anything is abnormal, we'll recall you and send a message to book an appointment through the TH Connect app.
